Monday March 10th (Day One), Tuesday March 18th (Day Two), Monday March 24th (Day Three), Monday March 31st (Day Four), Monday April 7th (Day Five), Monday April 14th (Day Six - EXAM DAY)
- Course date and time: this course will take place over 6 consecutive Mondays - starting March 10th 2025, and finishing on April 14th 2025 (written and tasting exam will take place on this day)
- The course will take place from 10:00-17.30 each day at The Sycamore Room, 15 Stephens Lane (Old Dobbins Restaurant), Dublin 2 (D02 RX27). This is a fully in-person course.
- Private study time required during the period of the course: approx. 51.5 hours
- Total in-class learning time approx. 32 hours
- Examination: at the end of the last course day
- Language of tuition: English
- Closing date for course registration is February 10th 2025 at 12pm.
- Study pack will be posted out to your address if the course is booked by February 1st 2025 (to be posted by the second week of February). After this date, your study pack will be received on the first day of the course.

Overview of Course
An advanced level qualification for professionals working in the wine industry and for wine enthusiasts.
For individuals seeking to delve deeper into the world of wines, this qualification provides a detailed understanding of grape growing and wine making. Upon completion you will be able to assess wines accurately, and use your understanding to confidently explain wine style and quality. Upon successful completion you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin, and will be able to use the associated WSET certified logo
You will be examined on both Unit 1 and Unit 2. Please reference the 'Level 3 specification' for further details on each of the two units.
Unit 1
- The key factors in the production of wine: location, grape growing, winemaking, maturation and bottling
- How these key factors influence the key characteristics of the principal
- still wines of the world
- sparkling wines of the world
- fortified wines of the world
- How to apply your understanding to explain wine style and quality
Unit 2
- How to taste wines, describe their characteristics and evaluate their quality, using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)
Course delivery
This qualification has a minimum requirement of 84 hours of study time, including 32 hours of classroom time.
Assessment
Unit 1 is assessed by a closed-book exam of 50 multiple-choice questions and a short-written answer paper. Unit 2 is assessed by a blind tasting of two wines.
Entry requirements
It is recommended that you hold the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines or can demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge. You must be of legal drinking age in the country where you are attending the course and exam to participate in any alcohol tasting. However, this is not a barrier to successfully completing Unit 1.
